We are the organisers of Zimbabwe Science Fair and Africa Science Buskers Festival. The Zimbabwe Science Fair is Zimbabwe's most prestigious science competition for young scientists and engineers in primary and high school who are working on ideas to solve society's grand challenges. The Africa Science Buskers Festival is Africa's premier science communication showcase for young scientists, inventors, engineers, artists and science communicators.
Our story started with 20 undergraduate students at the University of Zimbabwe in September 2013. Starting with 2 schools (one primary and one high school), the work has grown to impact over 500 000 children and teachers in Africa to date.
Helping 500 million children in Africa to be superheroes of tomorrow's adventures.
At 17, Pelagia represented Zimbabwe at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.She became the first African woman to have an asteroid named after her in recognition of her innovative contributions to her community through her decayed electrolytic potato battery project aimed at reducing electricity shortage. Pelagia went on to study Computer Science at Haverford College on a full scholarship. Pelagia has received scholarships and awards from Palantir, Lyft, DE Shaw and Microsoft in recognition of her work in empowering underrepresented students in tech. Pelagia is currently working as a Software Engineer at Microsoft in OneDrive and SharePoint.imagination, and learning.
Macdonald Chirara is the founder of Everlasting Technology a social enterprise in Zimbabwe that aims to create green communities through innovative renewable energy solutions. He is passionate about science and has participated at different science fairs which include the Intel (Regeneron) International Science and Engineering Fair and the Eskom International Science Fair. He also represented Zimbabwe at the 61st London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) and was one of the Famlab presenters. He also currently serves as a World Literacy Foundation Ambassador working towards eradicating illiteracy by reaching to marginalized communities through innovation and technology.
Vivian is a dedicated student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), currently pursuing a degree in Business Analytics. Her massive transformative purpose is to serve humanity and inspire its progress towards equal accessibility to resources. Known for her commitment to problem solving and social impact, Vivian is serving as the vice president of the African Students' Association where she is part of the pioneering team on the Impact Fund, a grant that supports community development projects for African countries by African students. With a passion for data science, product management and the social sciences, Vivian has undertaken various research projects and internships to gain practical experience. She aspires to make a significant impact in social data science.
